Lesvos: measure the world!

This tool takes measurements on pictures. Hint it with the measure of at least one object, and you can take measurements on everything else.

You can drag a picture into this page, or

Hints (red) are rulers with known sizes. At least one is necessary, but you can add more. Measures (green) are used to take measurements on the picture.

Example 1 Here we have a simple example: I am in front a steam locomotive. Obviously I know my own height, and I would like to estimate steamer's height.

So, I move the hint ruler (red) over me in picture, double-click it to set size to 170 (centimeters). Then I spread the measure ruler (green) over the steamer, in vertical direction. The steamer was estimated 292 centimeters high.

I could have created more green rulers just by dragging the mouse (clicking, moving and releasing) on the object I want to measure.

Rulers are manipulated by dragging with mouse. You can drag either the ends or the body of each ruler, depending whether you want to change ruler's length or just move it.

Add a new hint by pression H. Update hint size: focus and press U, or double-click. To remove a hint, update hint size with zero, or focus a hint and press X. At least one hint must stay on screen.

Add more measures by pressing M, dragging on picture (beginning at an empty spot) or by double-clicking an empty spot of the picture. To remove a measure, focus and press X, or double-click it.

By default, pictures are imported with reduced saturation, so the colorful rulers are easily seen. Press numeric keys (from 0 to 9) to get different saturation levels, from black-and-white (0) to fully saturated (9).

Currently, this tool is 2D only. That is, all objects (either the hints or the ones being measured) must be more or less in the same plane. Perspective compensation is a planned feature, but it is not there yet.
